Introduction of Native Place of Liu Bowen Scenic Area

Located in Wencheng County in Zhejiang Province, which is a state-level eco-county, Native Place of Liu Bowen Scenic Area covers an area of 4.81 square kilometers and is composed of two core areas, namely, Liu Ji Temple and Baizhang Waterfalls. The scenic area features beautiful environment, profound cultural deposits, rich folk customs, distinctive regional characteristics, perfect combination of cultural and natural landscape and is a comprehensive attraction for tourism, leisure and vacation integrated by diversified cultures.

Liu Ji Temple, the most valuable wooden structure architecture complex in existence in South China in term of research, was built in the second year of Tianshun period in Ming Dynasty (1458) according to an imperial edict. The temple commemorates Liu Ji (courtesy name Bowen), one of the founders of Ming Dynasty and a great man who had established immortal reputation in morality, meritorious achievements and thoughts.” The building is spacious, antique, grandeur and majestic. Inscribed boards and couplets of ancient and modern masters, such as Zhang Taiyan, Cai Yuanpei, Sha Menghai, are hung in the temple. Writings, paintings and calligraphy of various styles in memorial of Liu Bowen are available here, which is rarely seen in other architectures in memorial of celebrities in China. In 2001, it was included in the list of key cultural relics under national level protection.

Baizhang Waterfalls was formed by water converged from various rivers in Nantian, which is known as the 6th blessed land in China, and pours down from steep cliffs with elevation of more than 600m. It rushes through the deep gully and forms three stepped cascades with total drop of 353m, and single-fall drop of 207m, making it the highest single-fall drop in China. The water drops splash like jades and a rainbow can be seen among water mist. The fall thundering like billows, shaking the mountain and the earth, makes a spectacular sight. 1.Wencheng climate

The county is subtropical marine monsoon climate zone, cool in winter and cool in summer. Liu Chi’s hometown, Nan Tian, claims to be one of the 76 beauties in the country. It and Shijiu are summer resorts in the summer.

Wencheng County is located in the southern mountainous region of Zhejiang Province, the middle and upper reaches of Feiyun River in the west of Wenzhou City, Ruian City in the east, Pingyang, Cangnan County in the south, Taishun and Jingning County in the west, and Qingtian County in the north.

4. Economic overview

Wencheng's industrial and agricultural development is rapid. In 2002, the county’s gross domestic product was 1.528 billion yuan. By 2004 it had reached 1.959 billion yuan. The per capita net income of farmers has also increased from 2,277 yuan in 2002 to 2,674 yuan in 2004.
